The countdown to the launch of Portsmouth Community Resilience Team has begun and Serve On volunteers warmed up for the big event later this month with a display at Southsea Fire Station open day at the weekend.

It was a pleasure to support our hosts from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and, in particular, our friends at Station 24 which will be our latest Community Resilience Team’s home.

It was also great to assist in raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Members of Serve On’s soon-to-be-launched Portsmouth Community Resilience Team set up a Throwbag Challenge at Southsea Fire Station open day in aid of the Firefighters Charity.

Our local volunteers showed off some of the life-saving equipment CRT members train to use to support the emergency services.

They also set up a Throwbag Challenge for members of the public and would-be new members to try their hands at throwing rescue lines, and there was great support as always from Molly and handler James from the Serve On dog team.

Molly’s appearance in particular went swimmingly when she spotted the Dunk-a-firefighter pool.

It was a great opportunity to help to tell local people about the wonderful work done by the firefighters at Southsea and how the volunteers from the new Portsmouth CRT will fit in.

There was plenty of interest in the charity and we even signed up some new members who will be a great addition to the team.

We look forward to them joining in the training and helping their local community be prepared for severe weather events or other crises.

It was hard to know who was more dazzled by the Serve On display. Molly or our rescue mannequin?
