It’s Volunteer Week and Serve On’s own volunteers have had another packed weekend, training for disaster response and providing community support.
Fresh from marshalling the OVO Energy Tour Series cycling grand final in Salisbury on Thursday, members of the Community Resilience Team were called upon to support the Alabare outdoor cinema showing of Grease at Old Sarum on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, elbow-grease was the word for International Response Team recruits at our Chilmark training centre throughout the Summer Nights as they laboured away in the heat.
Another great turn-out of our Hopelessly Devoted trainees saw them back in the classroom on Friday night for more training on personal kit, map reading, natural disasters and revision of international disaster response protocols
The recruits were then introduced to our system of equipment crates and what they would need to pack in the event of a rapid response to a disaster, and they got to put that into practice on Saturday with a mock deployment, including the building of a medium Base of Operations.
There was still time later for some instruction on building collapses before more skills revision on Sunday….and a warning of the training exercise to come next month.
Our K9 Search and Rescue team were also on hand at Chilmark to put dogs and handlers through their paces and they all gave an impressive display of their talents.
Thanks, as ever, should go to Rab, Mark, Tony, Sarah, Simon and the rest of the training team, and thanks to Abb for the photos.

Our volunteers can’t give the disaster response they train so hard for without your help to pay for equipment and flights, so please donate if you can.
