Congratulations to Serve On’s water rescue lead Tom Hales who has just become a flood response Technical Expert for the Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
Tom, who is already a National Tactical Advisor for Flood and Swift Water Rescue in the UK, was sent by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), on the highly-specialised six-day course.
The Union Civil Protection Mechanism was established in 2001 to strengthen disaster prevention, preparedness and response cooperation between the 28 European Union states and six other countries – Norway, Iceland, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.
It allows for the sharing of expertise among member states, and around the world, in times of crisis.
Tom, a member of Serve On’s International Response Team, is just one example of the wealth of experience and expertise we have at our disposal among the talented volunteers in Serve On’s various teams.
Their expertise is particularly relevant in national Drowning Prevention Week.
Equally important are the volunteers who turn out week after week to help provide safety cover for local community events or work to promote and fund-raise for our charity, without whom the life-saving work could not happen.
Well done to all our volunteers in national Small Charity week.
