On Saturday 7th February 2026, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service led a large scale flood response exercise in Bradford-on-Avon, bringing together multiple agencies to test operational readiness and inter-agency coordination. The exercise aimed to simulate mass flooding and assess how teams respond safely and effectively in challenging conditions.
Volunteers and professional responders from WILSAR, DORSAR, Wessex Rescue, Serve On, and other organisations took part, working alongside fire service operational crews. The scenario included a variety of flood rescue and search tasks designed to test team procedures, communication, and overall preparedness.
Our team was involved in riverside searches and a simulated rescue of three “casualties” clinging to a car roof, a realistic scenario that required careful planning and adherence to safety protocols. Each task was designed to challenge responders to think quickly, operate efficiently, and maintain high standards of safety.
Exercises like this not only allow teams to practise their technical skills but also strengthen collaboration between different agencies. Working alongside other organisations provided valuable insight into joint operations and reinforced the importance of coordinated response during real emergencies.
The day was a success, demonstrating the professionalism, skill, and dedication of all involved. It highlighted the vital role of multi agency collaboration in keeping communities safe and ensuring responders are ready to act wherever they are needed.
