I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about why I want to join Serve On, and honestly, it boils down to the fact that I’ve seen what happens when the "safety net" disappears. In my day job as a paramedic, I have the privilege of helping people when they are having their worst day. But I’m acutely aware that I do that within a system that works. When natural disasters hit and that infrastructure falls apart, the people left in the middle of it are the ones who truly need us and that’s exactly where I want to be.
There’s also a more personal side to it. I’m looking for a way to take my medical experience and mix it with a bit of physical graft and practical problem-solving. I thrive in environments that are changing by the minute, and I truly enjoy the challenge of having to think on my feet when things get messy.
What really drew me in is the team. Finding a group of like-minded people who share those same values; a bit of grit, a lot of discipline, and a genuine desire to help, is rare. The idea of training alongside a team that can laugh together while doing serious, high-stakes work is exactly what I’m looking for. I want to use the skills I have, learn the ones I don’t, and be part of a group that steps up when everyone else steps back.
