I want to undertake the IRT training with Serve On because of the profound impact the charity has already had on my life, starting with the Rescue Rookies programme. I joined at 14 as a very quiet and shy person, but through that experience I grew in confidence and developed skills that have shaped who I am today. It taught me resilience, grit and determination, as well as teamwork, leadership and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Those lessons have stayed with me and helped me become a more capable and confident adult in the real world. Serve On gave me so much at a formative stage in my life, and now I feel a strong responsibility to give back. Training to become an international search and rescue volunteer is my way of doing that. I want to be ready to deploy to disasters and support people in their time of greatest need, just as the charity has supported and developed me.
